Your garbage disposal is a key component in your kitchen. It grinds up the food and waste you wash down your kitchen sink and sends it along in the sewer lines. Garbage disposals are made to handle small bits of food or waste and come in different power levels for tougher jobs. Food or waste can become jammed or clogged if the waste is too big or not shreddable. It’s also common for a garbage disposal to eventually leak or short out due to age or over usage.
Depending on your disposal’s usage, you may want to consider a more powerful unit. The more you wash larger particles down the sink, the more powerful your garbage disposal should be. We don’t recommend the same garbage disposal in a residential home as we do a commercial kitchen, but there are options to suite every need and use across the board. There’s a perfect gharbage disposal out there for – and we’re waiting to help you find it, install it, and love it!
1/3 HP Garbage Disposals are the most economical and are made to handle day to day usage of grinding up small food particles.
1/2 HP Garbage Disposals are still economical but provide a bit more power than the 1/3. This will allow you to put more down the sink.
3/4 HP Garbage Disposals have a larger chamber to handle more food and waste and can grind most small to medium size pieces of food with ease.
1+ HP units adds more grind stages that reduce food scraps into smaller particles before by thoroughly breaking down food and waste, even bones.
